What the levels mean
- A1–A2 (beginner): everyday words, simple sentences, routine phrases. Your path: the beginner path.
- B1–B2 (intermediate): real conversations, stories, most TV and email; the big grammar (tenses, conditionals, passive) is the frontier. Your path: the intermediate path.

How the test works
Questions are sampled from ESLDesk's own vocabulary and grammar pages, each rated on the CEFR scale. The test starts easy, then climbs or drops one level with every answer, so it spends most of its questions near your real ability. - How accurate is this English level test?
- It is a solid estimate, not an official certificate. The test adapts to your answers — questions get harder when you are right and easier when you miss — so 25 questions are usually enough to place you within one CEFR band. If you land between two levels, start with the lower one and retake the test in 2–3 months.
- What do A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1 mean?
- They are CEFR levels, the international scale for language ability: A1–A2 is beginner (everyday words, simple sentences), B1–B2 is intermediate (real conversations, most TV and email), and C1 is advanced (fast native speech, academic and professional English).
