Basic Colors
black – the color of the sky at night with no stars
white – the color of fresh snow or plain paper
red – the color of a ripe strawberry or a stop sign
blue – the color of a clear daytime sky
yellow – the color of a ripe banana or the midday sun
green – the color of healthy grass or fresh leaves
brown – the color of tree bark or dark chocolate
gray – the color of storm clouds or ash from a fire
orange – the color of a carrot or a citrus fruit with the same name
pink – a soft, pale red, like some flower petals or bubblegum
purple – the color you get by mixing red and blue, like an eggplant
Shades and Lightness
dark – describes any color that is deep and not bright, like the sky just before a storm
light – describes any color that is soft and pale, like the color of faded jeans
navy – a deep, almost black blue, often used for uniforms
tan – a pale brown, like dry sand or lightly toasted bread
cream – a very pale yellow-white, like milk fat
beige – a very light brown, like some types of fabric or sand
charcoal – a very dark gray, like burned wood
ivory – a soft, off-white color, like old piano keys

gold – a shiny, rich yellow, often used for jewelry or awards
silver – a shiny, light gray, like coins or some jewelry
golden – a bright, warm yellow, like sunlight at the end of the day
