  • Basic Weather Types
  • weather โ€“ the state of the air and sky at a certain time and place
  • sunny โ€“ the sun is shining and there are few or no clouds
  • clear โ€“ the sky is blue with no clouds
  • cloudy โ€“ the sky is covered with clouds
  • overcast โ€“ the sky is completely covered with thick clouds
  • gloomy โ€“ the sky is dark and gray, with little sunlight
  • foggy โ€“ thick mist near the ground that makes it hard to see
  • mist โ€“ light, thin fog close to the ground
  • smoggy โ€“ dirty air caused by smoke and fog mixed together
  • wind โ€“ moving air you can feel
  • breeze โ€“ a gentle, soft wind
  • gust โ€“ a short burst of strong wind
  • gale โ€“ a very strong wind, more powerful than a breeze
  • chilly โ€“ a little cold, not freezing but cool enough for a jacket

  • frozen โ€“ turned solid because of cold, like ice or snow
  • warm โ€“ comfortably hot, like a spring day
  • hot โ€“ very warm, makes you sweat
  • mild โ€“ gentle, not too hot and not too cold
  • dry โ€“ there is little or no moisture
  • damp โ€“ a little bit wet, but not soaking
  • wet โ€“ covered with water or rain
  • humid โ€“ the air has a lot of water vapor and feels sticky
  • muggy โ€“ hot and humid together, feels heavy and uncomfortable

  • precipitation โ€“ any kind of water falling from the sky, such as rain, snow, hail, or sleet
  • rain โ€“ water drops falling from clouds
  • drizzle โ€“ light rain with very small drops
  • shower โ€“ a short period of rain
  • downpour โ€“ a sudden and very heavy rain
  • hail โ€“ small balls of ice falling from the sky
  • hailing โ€“ when balls of ice are falling from clouds
  • hailstorm โ€“ a storm with a lot of falling ice balls
  • snow โ€“ soft white flakes of frozen water from the sky
  • snowing โ€“ when snow is falling
  • blizzard โ€“ a very strong snowstorm with a lot of wind

  • dew โ€“ tiny drops of water that appear on grass in the morning

  • drought โ€“ a long period with no rain
  • lightning โ€“ a sudden flash of bright light in the sky during a storm
  • thunder โ€“ the loud sound you hear after lightning in a storm

  • ice โ€“ frozen water, hard and slippery
  • iced โ€“ covered with ice, made cold with ice cubes
  • slip โ€“ to lose your balance and slide, often because of ice or water
  • slippery โ€“ difficult to stand or walk on because it is smooth or wet
